Grove Medical Practice, St Ives holds its first Open Day for patients

On Tuesday 17 June 2025, Grove Medical Practice, a GP Surgery in St Ives Cambridgeshire, held its first Open Day for patients.  The Open Day ran between 14:00pm and 18:00pm and was an afternoon designed to welcome patients in to the very heart of the surgery, offering them a chance to see how their GP practice runs and to meet the teams and colleagues who deliver their services.

The event was opened by the Mayor of St Ives, Cllr Julie Kerr, who spent the afternoon meeting patients and staff and talking with many of the community partners who joined the event.

Alongside displays from each team, the practice also welcomed stands from local support organisations including Alzheimer’s UK, P3, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Huntingdonshire Community Care Care Network, Parkinsons UK and HAY Hunts.

Each of the practice teams created displays and posters to help explain what they do to help and support patients and staff spoke openly with patients about the complexities of modern primary care, and how they work to help patients navigate and access the services and support available.

The Patient Group was also on hand, talking to patients about their role in sharing and discussing patient feedback with the practice and providing insight and support with new ideas and service developments.

Commenting on the Open Day, Simon Stitson, Practice Business Manager for Grove Medical Practice said:

“We were delighted to welcome so many patients to our Open Day. The event began as a great opportunity for patients and members of the local community to visit the practice, meet our team and learn more about the services and support we provide, but became so much more.

We really valued the contribution of the many support organisations who attended the event, their information and expertise is an important reminder that healthcare doesn’t stop at the surgery door, but reaches into the very heart of the community.

The afternoon was also a great opportunity to meet with our patients and to learn more about what matters to them.  We shared lots of information about what we do and all of the changes and improvements that we have made over the last few years, including the completion of our recent building and refurbishment projects.  We also revealed a new artwork display from children at a local primary school which has helped to brighten our waiting room.

We would like to extend our thanks to everybody who took part in the event and to Cllr Julie Kerr for all her time and support.”
